The virgin rainforest of Manu is stunningly beautiful and fortunately nearly untouched by civilization. Descending from the high Andes, our biking route travels along breathtaking vistas as we descend through lush cloud forest before reaching the tropical rainforest of the upper Amazon. In addition to bike rides, enjoy motorboat rides on the Manu River to observe the famous macaw clay-lick, and a scenic train ride from historical Cusco to the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu. Visiting Manu National Park is a fascinating experience. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987, it is legendary for being home to the world's greatest biodiversity. This remote rainforest park is Peru's largest, and is home to well over 15,000 species of plant life, perhaps a million insects, 200 species of mammals, 15 species of monkeys - more than another place on earth, and more than 1,000 species of birds. An excellent adventure for nature lovers, as the jungle of Manu is one of the best places for viewing wildlife in all of South America.

Day 1:
Early morning pick for a scenic ride along the Urubamba River toward the lost city of Machu Picchu. Full day guided tour of the ruins. Lunch at the ruins. Afternoon return by train to Cusco. .

Day 2:
Morning departure with cycling support vehicle which will leave bikers atop the valley floor for a scenic 22 mile mountain bike descent through the lush and beautiful cloud forest. Campsite at the village of Tres Cruces. Here the mountains of the Andes give way to the jungle of the Amazon.

Day 3
Weather permitting, a spectacular sunrise can be seen atop Tres Cruces. A phenomenon of unusual colors, halos and prisms occurs here with the rising of the sun. After breakfast begin a 50-mile descent ride to the town of Pilcopata located in the upper Amazon Basin. Campsite is next to the Manu River.

Day 4
A scenic 25-mile mountain bike ride continues to enhance the experience in this remote region of the Amazon jungle. Reaching Sintuya, a village located within Manu National Park. A motorboat ride on the Manu River through lush surroundings towards the mouth of this meandering river. Camp next to the river.

Day 5
Full day to visit an area rich in flora and fauna. Remote and fairly inaccessible, Manu National Park is inhabited by the world's greatest diversity of wildlife. Camp. .

Day 6
Morning transfer by motorboat to observe the famous macaw clay-lick. This exclusive wildlife location is protected and serves as a well managed ecotourism project. Camp or hostel.

Day 7
By motorboat to the village of Atalaya nestled in the foothills of the Andes. Free day of leisure to explore jungle trails, paddle quiet waters, or simply relax on the last day in the Amazon rainforest. Camp or hostel.

Day 8
Return to Cusco
