This interesting tour begins at 6.30am as we leave Arequipa in a 4x4, which will pick up all passengers from their respective hotels. We will take the Panamerican highway towards Lima , and here our adventure begins.
The town of Majes is situated in the province of Castilla , 133km following the road to the right. After approximately 2 hours we arrive at Punta Colorada, crossing a bridge over the River Majes, where we can taste delicious shrimp. The first population is found in Corire, 162kms from Arequipa .
7kms from Coririe, in the district of Uraca, the amazing complex of the Toro Muerto Petroglyphs is found. It is at approximately 650masl, and consists of around 5 thousand enormous stones; anthropomorphic, fitomorphic, zoomorphic and geometric blocks which represent figures of flora and fauna. They are 800 years old. We will stay here exploring the area of 560 square meters for two to three hours.
Then we will go to the town of Corire where we will taste typical dishes from the province, made with the exquisite shrimp of unequalled flavour. They have a different taste to prawns, and their rich flavour impregnates any dish (be it soup, rice or stew) with its own strength, and the tails are finger licking good!
Next we will go to Querulpa Chico, a little known but very impressive place where we will stay for 2 hours observing dinosaur footprints, left by these prehistoric animals.
In this area there are 68 footprints of 50 to 90 centimeters long, each with 4 toes; three of them joined by a membrane and the other separate and smaller. They must correspond to three different species of dinosaurs from the Jurassic period, which began approximately 175 million years ago.
After this very interesting visit we will end our tour at around 3pm, and arrive in Arequipa at around 6pm.
